Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to counteract their damaging effects through neutralization with antioxidants. Oxidative damage of some biomolecules generated by the stress, is associated with aging as well as a variety of pathological events. The measurement and study of oxidative stress biomarkers is relevant in the evaluation of the disease status and the health-enhancing effects of antioxidants with the development of new nutraceutical products.
