Glutathione peroxidase (GPX) is a family of antioxidant enzymes whose primary function is to protect cells against oxidative damage. These enzymes catalyze the reduction of various peroxide species, including hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and lipid hydroperoxides (ROOH), using reduced glutathione (GSH) as an electron donor. Through this activity, GPX plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis and preventing membrane lipid peroxidation.
Alterations in GPX expression levels or enzymatic activity have been associated with a wide range of pathological conditions. Therefore, the determination of GPX activity represents a valuable tool for assessing the antioxidant status of biological samples and investigating the role of oxidative stress in both physiological and pathological processes.
BQC Glutathione Peroxidase Activity Assay Kit is based on a coupled reaction involving the enzyme glutathione reductase (GR) using NADPH as a cofactor. The oxidation of NADPH to NADP⁺ results in a decrease in absorbance at 340 nm, which is monitored spectrophotometrically
This kit is a sensitive and reproducible assay to measure GPX activity in biological samples.
