Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid is a water-soluble vitamin essential for plants and animals. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that provides protection against oxidative stress-induced cellular damage by scavenging of reactive oxygen species.
BQC Ascorbic Acid Assay Kit is based on the Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Assay. Antioxidants in the sample reduce a colorless Fe3+ complex to a blue colored Fe2+ complex which shows a maximum of absorbance at 593 nm. Absorbance recorded at 593 nm is, therefore, directly proportional to the total antioxidant capacity. The kit employs ascorbate oxidase to remove ascorbic acid from the samples. Ascorbic acid levels in a sample are determined by measuring the difference between the total antioxidant capacity in absence and presence of ascorbate oxidase. The amount of ascorbic acid in a sample is calculated from a standard curve generated from known concentrations of Vitamin C.
